Such as his on going rivalry with the AVGN, no sooner he had his own legion of critics on his side called Channel Awesome. At one point they had a brawl with video gamers vs media critics. That was quickly resolved, at another point in time Critic attempted to take over the nation of Molossia into Kickassia. After trying to become the dictator that quickly failed.
Then at one point Critic found a map online about the Hand of Malachite. Which had enabled strong dark demonic properties. During his journey to try and obtain the power, him and his friends encountered Malachite himself. One of his close friends Mati who was more or less got himself caught up in the fight against Malachite. Mati however had the power of love within his ring that proved to be a strong encounter to dark power. But sadly with the defeat of Malachite, came the death of Mati.
Causing Critic to finally experience the pain of losing someone in his life, which left a pain in his heart and actual regret. Wanting to try and make up for his mistakes he assembled his friends once again when he and Chick came across a message from beyond the grave. Suspecting that it was Mati’s lost soul Critic went on a search for his friend.
Facing many fearful enemies, this proved to be a more difficult journey than his last. No sooner he came to discover that his friends were starting to loose their memories. The problem soon explained by Insano that a group of demons called the "mnemophage" was now growing wide in numbers that feed on other’s memories. In short they are also called the "memory eaters". And that Mati was now an orb and only provoked Critic so that he wanted Critic’s friends to all join him in lost memories as a way of proving that Critic will not care about them either.
At the end of his journey, Critic encountered the Keeper of Memories. Who told them there was a way to recover all his friend’s memories before they disappear forever, but he had to sacrifice himself to the memory eaters and it had to be him alone to make the decision. Critic realizing that his friends were the most important thing to him, he went ahead and let himself get consumed by the main source that was increasing the memory eaters power, erasing his memories completely, letting out to release all his friends memories back into them.
The Keeper of Memories was essentially left with Critic’s body after the incident, at the time he couldn’t bring back his memories back and created a new one for him. Leaving him with the fake memories of man named Donnie DuPre. Making friends with a group of people he began to try and remake films for a living. However an unexpected turned as the demon mnemophage came back stronger than ever, attacking Donnie’s friends away from him one by one.
Protective and fearful, Donnie rushed blindly to try and find the Keeper. He finally does encounter the Keeper, who all the while had the help from Rob to recover Critic’s memories back. Donnie now remembering who he really was still wanted to do something about his friends and stop the memory eaters from ever doing this again. The Keeper warned him that he can bring them back, but only with different memories and that if he wanted to continue doing this that he must become a demon himself.
Accepting his fate, Donnie became the Critic again. But this time as a Cat Sith with the power to restore other’s memories with a certain limit. He decided to now dedicate his life to helping others against the memory eaters as well as bring back sanity to the world from the bad media. Because he is now the Nostalgia Demon, he remembers it so you don’t have to.
